Residents of all ages are invited to put their observation and problem-solving skills to the test during Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library's second annual town-wide scavenger hunt on Saturday, July 25.

The event will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and begin at Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library before sending participants throughout downtown Boothbay in search of clues, hidden items, and answers to a variety of challenges.

"It's just a nice way for people to get out and showcase the library in the center of our town," said event organizer Jen Betts.

The scavenger hunt will be held rain or shine and is open to anyone. Teams are encouraged to work together throughout the event, but participants cannot split up to cover more ground. To remain eligible, all team members must stay together for the entire scavenger hunt.

In addition to bringing the community together, the event highlights many of the businesses that sponsor the library's Summer Reading Program. Participants can expect to visit familiar locations throughout downtown while completing the hunt.

Betts said participants should come prepared for "a list of items to collect, questions to answer, and mysteries to solve."

Betts said she and several volunteers spent many hours designing clues, mapping the route and creating activities that would be both fun and engaging.

"Quite a few hours of brainstorming, wandering through town trying to think of things we could incorporate," Betts said.

The annual event has become another way for the library to encourage community involvement while giving residents and visitors a chance to experience downtown Boothbay from a new perspective. By combining local history, businesses and teamwork, organizers hope participants leave with a greater appreciation for both the town and the library.

"We hope to see everyone there," Betts said.
