Boothbay Harbor lobster boat sinks, friends helping to raise it at town dock
Boothbay Harbor Harbor Master Jeff Lowell got the call about a lobster boat sinking at the town dock off Commercial Street around 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 8.
When Lowell arrived at the dock, some local residents had already gathered and a plan was being made to right the situation to bring Steve Hodgdon’s boat out of the water.
“We have secured a boom to the boat so it will remain in place,” said Lowell on Thursday morning. “We notified the local Coast Guard station and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection about the situation. There appears to be very little discharge of gas or oil coming from the boat as of today.”
Lowell said he and Town Manager Julia Latter are working with Hodgdon on the situation and that two locals, Robbie Campbell and Mike Cusumano, have volunteered to try and get the boat out of the water by the end of the day.
“Should their plan not work, local and state authorities will be alerted to come up with a plan to get the boat out,” said Lowell.
