Sail, Power, & Steam Museum welcomes Waterfront Manager

Rockland – The Sail, Power, & Steam Museum (SPSM) announces and welcomes Waterfront Manager Kevin Cooke to SPSM’s Midcoast Sailing Center (MCSC) team.

Cooke’s role will serve the community and MCSC by managing adult sailing, charter and rental fleet management, as well as coordinating mooring and dock rentals.

“We have moorings that are currently available in the harbor area behind the Sail, Power, & Steam Museum at 75 Mechanic St., Rockland, in the South End,” he said.

“We offer moorings to accommodate boats from 12-footers to 55-feet in length, with seasonal contracts from May 15 to October 11, 2026. Transient moorings are available on a first-come, first-served basis with transient moorings rented daily and/or weekly,” he said.

Cooke also said there’s dingy dockage available for boats up to 10-feet on the wharf behind the museum, as a daily, weekly, monthly, or seasonal rental. Dingy, dock, and moorings customers have access to restroom and shower facilities in the SPSM Professional Building just up from the wharf.

Originally from Hingham, Massachusetts, and as a Tufts University undergrad, Cooke sailed for the Tufts racing team. “We were the number one sailing team in the Northeast,” he said.

Cooke brings over 50 years of sailing experience all along the New England coastal region of the U.S. Cooke holds a USCG-certified 25-ton, towing endorsement and sailing endorsement. He has more than 25 years of experience teaching and hosting charters, both under sail and with power boats.

As a sailing instructor, Cooke is qualified to teach adults and children ages 5-18 years old, as well as one-design sailboat racing in the following classes:  Laser,110, 210, J-24, J-22, Ensign, 420, 470, as well as PHRF.

Cooke wouldn’t say just how many boats he actually owns, but when pressed, did say, “I currently own a 36-foot custom built yawl designed by Bruce Kirby, as well as a 32-foot Grand Banks Trawler, and…that’s enough,” he said.
