On Saturday, July 7 at 2:16 p.m., Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a deceased adult female had been found in the ocean between Seguin Island and Southport Island. Recreational boaters located the body. The body was recovered from the water by the Coast Guard and then transferred to Maine Marine Patrol for transport to the Marine Patrol Station in Boothbay Harbor.

Sheriff’s Office personnel met the Marine Patrol at the dock. The body was later transported to the Medical Examiner’s Officer in Augusta for an autopsy.

The person was later identified as Wendy Lewis, 55, of Freeport. Lewis had been reported missing to Freeport Police Department the evening of Wednesday, July 7.

The morning of Thursday, July 8, Lewis’ car was recovered on Salt Pond Road in Bristol. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Coast Guard, Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Warden Service and volunteers conducted a ground, air and water search, which was unsuccessful.

The cause of Lewis’ death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Freeport Police Department Officer Alison Murray at 865-4800 or Lincoln County Sheriff’s Det. Ryan Chubbuck at 882-7332.
