Appreciative of veteran banners project
Dear Editor:
I am writing to congratulate Jim Singer, the American Legion, and everyone else who has worked on the veterans’ banner project in the Boothbay region.
When I drove to Boothbay Harbor on July 25, my heart swelled with pride as I turned off Route 1 onto Route 27 and saw the first banners. What a beautiful, meaningful way to honor the veterans from the Boothbay region!
There are currently 615 banners, with an order recently submitted for 15 more. There are banners representing veterans from every branch of the service; banners with veterans from every decade since at least the 1940s; banners for men and women. I wish I could see and read every single one of them.
When I asked Jim Singer if he ever imagined there would be over 600 banners, he replied that he had hoped for 200. There are already more than three times that many banners in place.
I am so proud to have grown up in a place where so many veterans have served our country. Especially in this time of polarization and division, everyone in the community can feel good about the veterans’ banner project. Thank you to everyone who has worked on this inspiring project!
