Boothbay-Wiscasset Regional Adult Ed calls for fall enrichment class proposals
Fall might seem far away now that spring is finally here, but Boothbay-Wiscasset Regional Adult Education is already planning its fall enrichment course catalogue. The program seeks proposals for classes from anyone with a hobby, skill, interest, or expertise they want to share with others in the region.
Director Raye Leonard conducted a community survey in April to get feedback about the types of classes people want to see offered. "Art classes are among the most requested classes," Leonard said. "Everything from watercolor painting to resin pouring, and all sorts of make-and-take crafts show up on almost every survey response."
Additionally, respondents are interested in tai chi, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free cooking classes, and French, she added.
It's easy to propose a class. Just fill out a brief form describing what you want to teach. If you are a new instructor, or if you would like to discuss your idea, pricing, and so on, please reach out to Raye Leonard to set up a time to speak by phone or meet online.
The enrichment program runs from Monday, Oct.5 to Thursday, Nov. 19 with no class on Indigenous Peoples Day, Monday, Oct. 12 and Veterans' Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.
In-person classes are held Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday at Boothbay Region High School, Boothbay Region Elementary School, or Wiscasset Middle High School. The program is working on securing space for daytime classes in both communities. If you know of one, please reach out to Raye Leonard.
Online classes that require no additional program support can take place anytime. If you want to teach online, please have the necessary audio- and video-enabled devices, and a stable and reliable internet connection to deliver your class. We recommend having someone in your class to monitor the chat box and help students with any glitches that may come up. If your online class takes place during a time when our office is open, we may be able to support you in this way, but please inquire about this in advance.
Instructors are responsible for their own materials, photocopying, basic tech support for online classes, and ongoing student communications after the first class. The program handles all registrations, room assignments, and general class management unless another arrangement is preferred.
Course proposals are due by June 4.
The program is pleased to partner with the Boothbay Register to produce a special adult education insert for the Sept. 10 edition.
