Adams Pond's usable water level higher than last year
The usable water supply in Adams Pond is higher than this time last year, General Manager Weston Alley told Boothbay Region Water District (BRWD) trustees Dec. 9.
The pond has 191 million gallons of water above the intake, which puts it at 77% usable capacity, compared to last year’s 74%. The water flow average from the week of Dec. 1 was 318,000 gallons a day; last year’s was 302,000. The county is still in a D3 extreme drought as of Dec. 4.
In other business, Alley reported that work on BRWD’s Joppa Road water main replacement project is progressing more slowly than expected due to winter weather conditions. So far, 200 feet of pipe has been installed.
Trustees briefly discussed whether BRWD wanted to allot a proposed $30,000 to water quality testing for the 2026 fiscal year. They are also going to begin reviewing four proposed paths from Dirigo Engineering for their Squirrel Island Village Corporation water main replacement project. No official decisions have been made on either front.
