This week at the Harbor Theater
"The Naked Gun" - (PG13; 1 hour, 25 minutes) - The beloved "Naked Gun" franchise returns with a riotous new chapter that blends outrageous slapstick, high-stakes action, and sly satire. Directed by Akiva Schaffer, this legacy sequel stars Liam Neeson as Lieutenant Frank Drebin Jr., the bumbling, yet determined son, of the legendary Police Squad detective. When the powerful P.L.O.T. Device is stolen, threatening to unleash chaos across the city, Drebin Jr. is forced to step into his father’s oversized shoes to prevent the closure of Police Squad and save the day. Joined by Beth (Pamela Anderson), a crime novelist with secrets of her own, Drebin Jr. stumbles through a series of increasingly absurd encounters—from disastrous high-tech car chases to nightclub infiltrations and a deadly showdown at a New Year’s Eve MMA match. Along the way, he faces off against billionaire villain Richard Cane (Danny Huston) and his henchmen, while navigating grief, romance, and a fatherly owl with suspiciously good timing. Packed with outrageous gags, unexpected cameos, and over-the-top set pieces, "The Naked Gun" delivers both nostalgia and fresh laughs. Balancing action and comedy, it honors Leslie Nielsen’s iconic legacy while reinventing Police Squad’s world for a new generation. Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. (OCAP); Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
“There are certainly laughs to be had from all this, and you have to admire Neeson for getting back in touch with his inner adolescent and playing the clown with such zest.” – Sandra Hall, Sydney Morning Herald
"Downton Abbey: The Grande Finale" - (PG; 2 hours, 4 minutes) - In this final cinematic chapter, the Crawley family gathers at Downton Abbey for one last grand season as the winds of change sweep through their world. Loyalties are tested when shifting politics and family secrets collide, while romances blossom in unexpected places. Lady Mary faces difficult choices about the future of the estate, Edith steps into a new chapter of independence, and the staff downstairs navigate opportunities beyond the Abbey walls. As World War II looms on the horizon, the Crawleys must decide how to preserve their legacy while embracing the inevitable changes that will define their future. Filled with elegance, wit, heartbreak, and hope, 'Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale' offers a poignant and unforgettable farewell to the beloved family and household that have captivated audiences for more than a decade. Opening Friday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. with Open Night Gala (of course - and complete with a fashion/costume parade!) beginning at 5:30 p.m. (advance tickets required). The 7 p.m. screenings continue on Saturday, Sept. 13; Monday, Sept. 15; Tuesday, Sept. 16 and Thursday, Sept. 18. Shows at 2 p.m. are on Sunday, Sept. 14 and Wednesday, Sept.17 (OCAP).
