Three things
It’s Super Bowl week and am I excited? Somewhat. Not feeling the happiness and anticipation like I have in the past when the New England Patriots made it to the big game. This is their 12th appearance in the Super Bowl, more than any other team in the National Football League. Perhaps that is it – we fans have been spoiled by their success over the past two-plus decades. I should be more excited after suffering through the past two or three (or more) seasons, when they didn’t even make the playoffs. This year’s team sure exceeded expectations and I expect them to give the Seattle Seahawks a good game – they might even win their seventh trophy, one more than the Pittsburgh Steelers. Go Pats!

It was another classic Seahawks vs. Winthrop boys basketball game on Monday night. These two Mountain Valley Conference rivals have provided exciting regular season and tournament games for fans ever since Boothbay joined the MVC. The comeback win by the Seahawks has to be right up there near the top in the many years I have covered or watched these games. Yes, their regular season records aren’t what they used to be, but when these two teams meet, it is always a battle. Both teams have several returning players next year with Winthrop having nine and Boothbay having 11. Can’t wait for next year’s game(s).

Enough with the cold and snow. Yes, it’s winter and we know what it’s like in January and February. We had some warmer weather this winter, but waking up to below zero temperatures (or just slightly higher) over the past few weeks is getting old. The plowing bills and the heating bills just get added onto and my aging body is tired of shoveling, even if it’s just two or three inches. Sorry for the grumbling but I am sure many people feel the same way!
