Dear Editor:

I would like to thank the businesses who participated in the Library’s Guerrilla education program to coincide with the Dunlap Broadside visit. I spent a few days in June walking around downtown and pitching the “The Grievances Walking Tour.” One response from a host business was “Sounds crazy as hell, OK, we’ll do it.” Without much fanfare the Grievances popped up around town, and linked to information on upcoming library programs on American history, information about the Maine Historical Society tour, and the full text of the Declaration of Independence and the 27 Grievances that inspired a revolution.

We’ve had people come into the library throughout the summer talking about the signs. Some are raggedly flapping on the columns of the library (a revolution is rugged, after all), some are posters, some are lawn signs. Without the support of our downtown community, the idea would have gone nowhere. I extend my humble appreciation to the following revolutionaries:

The Boothbay Region Historical Society, The Congregational Church, AE Home, The Methodist Church, Grover’s Hardware, Boothbay Register, The Opera House, Woodsong Market, Coastal Maine Popcorn, Tigger Leather, Jansen’s Clothing, Footridge Brewery, Pier One Pizza, Log Cabin Shoes, and Enchantments. 

…And to the parents who told their kids they’d give them 40 bucks if they found them all: give them the $40! Grievance 15 and 22 were only at Bigelow on Friday and Saturday…and I think I lost Grievance #6…
