Squirrel Island Chapel organ concert July 31

Tue, 07/23/2019 - 12:00pm

On Wednesday, July 31 at 4 p.m. George Bozeman, an acclaimed organ builder who has built instruments across the country, including an organ at Trinity Church on Wall Street, will play a concert in the Squirrel Island Chapel.

Bozeman will perform on his Opus 12, built in 1976 for the Squirrel Island Chapel and used that year for the American Guild of Organists national convention in Boston. The concert will include the “Saint Anne” Prelude and Fugue in E-flat Major and manualiter movements from J.S. Bach’s Clavierübung III. Kevin Birch, director of music at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bangor, will sing each chorale that the organ works are based on before Bozeman plays them.

The concert is free and open to the public, and donations will be accepted for the Squirrel Island Chapel. Squirrel Island may be reached by ferry via the Balmy Days Cruises Novelty boat located at Pier 8 in Boothbay Harbor (42 Commercial Street). The Novelty trip is 30 minutes each way, and makes trips to Squirrel Island and back several times a day.
