Sprucewold Column: Busy summer continues
Sprucewold is such a supportive community. My dad’s celebration of life was Saturday at the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church and Sprucewold was well represented. Thank you one and all.
Our extended family of 25 had a traditional clambake at the Linekin Green last week and we wanted to remind everyone that the pavilion, grills, and picnic tables at the Green are available for all Sprucewold residents for family events and gatherings. Just let LHA president Wally Moulaison know your dates and times.
Saturday, August 9th, was also the annual Sprucewold Beach Club meeting at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church Hall at 8:30 a.m. SBC secretary Sydney Moulaison recommends that we all watch for an email to vote on the 2024 minutes, 2026 budget, and the Board of Directors slate.
The Avett Brothers Band played at Thompson’s Point in Portland last week and we ran into the Otto family, a great concert and great company! More Sprucewolder sightings over the week were at Linekin Bay Resort and at the handy Boothbay Lobster Wharf. My personal favorites are lobster risotto at LBR and lobster mac and cheese at BLW. Give those choices a try!
Last weekend was the annual potluck supper at Linekin Green. The Sprucewold Association sponsored event was well attended and as usual the cooks and bakers outdid themselves. The attendees were all good eaters and we had few leftovers which is always appreciated by the clean up committee. The new eight foot picnic tables were christened, we highly recommend builder Logan Krah of Brunswick. He builds the picnic tables and delivers them as well for a good price. Thank you to Mike Mallon for the recommendation. Joe Mair and Ben Waters will get together at some point to repair one of the older tables and benches. Repair, recycle, and reuse!
Sprucewold Association president Annaliese Neff is working to replace the street sign boards which are sponsored and maintained by the SA. Many are in tough shape after years of weathering, seasonal removal, and storage and will again be beautiful when repaired and replaced.
Games on the Green has moved from Friday to Sunday afternoons from 4-6. Croquet and cornhole are always popular choices. Thank you to Leigh Pumilia and Carole Ortlip for keeping it going. To access the old tennis court, Green, or the shuffleboard court there are rights of way between each cabin around the Green.
Don’t forget the Boothbay Farmers Market on Thursday mornings on the Common at the Center. Local corn is at Brown’s Farm Stand. Cunningham’s Farm Stand in Boothbay on Route 27 has a great selection of fresh vegetables and fruit.
A few weekends ago we went to Lakin’s Gorges Cheese at East Forty Farm and Dairy in Waldoboro at 2361 Friendship Road, cheese made on site from their own Jersey cows. Cheese maker Alison Lakin has received the Editor’s Choice for Best Cheesemaker from Downeast Magazine, Yankee Magazine named her Rockweed cheese one of the 10 Best Foods in New England and it won the Best in Class in the Soft Ripened, Flavored category at the World Championship Cheese Contest. We tried: Opus 42, Rockweed, Cascadilla Bleu, Medallion, and Basket Ricotta; all excellent. Call or check the website, it's worth the drive!
