Southport Yacht Club
We kept our members stretched both athletically and intellectually on Saturday, Aug. 1. Up first was the 13th annual Rock the Boat 5K. There were more than 150 people registered for the run/walk. Four course records were broken and the overall winner was 15-year-old Nico Masson from Brooklyn, New York, with a time of 16:59.96. Nico’s father and mother also made the podium in their respective age groups! It was a warm morning, as evidenced by all the people who took a quick swim in Cozy Harbor after the race. The winner of each of the 18 age group categories received a pie and a sailboat award to hang in their cottage. Thanks to all who donated pies, served as race marshals or timing assistants, and helped make the race a success. We appreciate you! Mark your calendars for the 2027 Rock the Boat 5K on Aug. 7.
Members had a few hours at home before the 1 p.m. start of the Pratt’s Island 420 races. Then we were back at the club for a barbecue with amazing salads and desserts provided by attendees. Next up was Trivia Night where members wrestled with tough questions about Maine, nautical/boats, random trivia and a round of picture clues depicting bands/musicians. The winning team was the Morrison/Quinn/Bates families who will share a gift card to Robinson’s. Donations were collected for Southport Island Association and totaled over $200.
Next weekend is the annual Beer Tasting event hosted by the Chattertons. The event starts at 5:30 p.m., rain or shine. Team Chatterton has been planning a terrific lineup for your tasting pleasure. Please bring along an appetizer to share. We look forward to seeing everyone next weekend! Please remember if you have guests visiting- they are always welcome!
