Southport municipal candidates have until Jan. 2 to return nomination papers for the March 2 election. Papers for selectmen, Boothbay Region Water District trustee and two school committee seats are available. So far, no one has returned papers, according to Town Clerk Donna Climo.

The following municipal officers' terms expire in March. Gerry Gamage, selectman; Smith Climo, Boothbay Region Water District trustee; Adam Climo and Marc Kurtz, school committee. Both Climo and Kurtz were appointed this past fall to fill the unexpired terms of Kathy Tibbetts and Nick Ullo.

Candidates need a minimum of 50 signatures to qualify for the ballot and are asked to collect no more than 1,000.
