Yet another week has come and gone at Southport Yacht Club, and a very joyous and eventful one at that.

The week kicked off with 11 swim tests under the clear blue skies in Cozy Harbor, Teddy Beach, Charlie Beach, Remi Breedlove, Noah Martin, Ella Martin, Cammie Reilly, Mason Reilly, Adam Reilly, Aurora Wallace, Brock Wallace and Ty Breedlove all conquered the cold waters before enjoying some hot cocoa to celebrate their success.

In the morning, the week consisted of some calm sails and sharpening sail trim skills while also racing a couple of times. On Friday, the kids went to Powderhorn for the annual “Pirate Day” in which the kids must search around the island to find a treasure which was hidden, after around an hour and a half of relentlessly searching and some kids even stepping on the rock that the treasure was under.

The afternoon class also had an eventful week with Opti Maine States on the calendar for that Monday and Tuesday. The club saw overall success in the regatta, with multiple high finishes. The Turnabouts did practice races and practice starts to sharpen their racing skills to prepare for the upcoming August series. The 420 program had a busy week which included a day dedicated to practice starts which lead into the box drill, where sailors try to force people out of a box by using racing rules. The 420 program also participated in a race day, which was also the final race day of the July series.

On Tuesday, Tuesday Night Races took place, where Graydon Smith and Liam Donahue placed 3rd, Gigi Moen and Morgan Donahue placed 2nd and David and Andrew Turley placed 1st. At the end of the week, the afternoon class also participated in their own pirate day, where the treasure was found in around half an hour and the rest of the time was spent playing popular pastimes at the club this summer such as hacky sack and spikeball.

Overall, this week was a busy week, but yet another one that reminded everyone at the club why they love it so much. Next week, some activities to look forward to are some more relaxing days and wonderful weather with all regattas being done for the summer.
