Southport General Store to host annual International Dinner celebrating J1 students
Southport General Store will host its annual International Dinner on Sunday, Sept. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m., bringing the community together for an evening of traditional cuisine, celebration, and gratitude for the international students who play an essential role in Maine’s seasonal economy.
The can’t-miss dinner will feature traditional dishes inspired by the homelands of Southport General Store’s beloved J1 students, offering guests an opportunity to experience authentic flavors and learn more about the cultures and traditions they bring to the community each summer.
Maine’s coastal seasonal economy relies heavily on the hard work and dedication of students who travel to the United States each summer through the J1 Exchange Visitor Program. These young people contribute far more than their time and talent to local businesses. They bring energy, new perspectives, friendship, and a sense of connection that enriches the entire community.
“Our International Dinner is one of our favorite traditions of the year,” said the Southport General Store manager. “It is a chance for us to say thank you to the incredible young people who become such an important part of our team and our community each summer, while inviting everyone to share in the food and traditions that make their homes special.”
The International Dinner is both a celebration and a heartfelt thank-you to the J1 students who help make summer on the Maine coast possible. Guests are invited to come share a meal, raise a glass, and celebrate the people who contribute so much to the community.
