Seahawks beat Hall-Dale, 3-1, to post first win
The Boothbay baseball team went from the lowest "lows" to the highest "highs" in a matter of four days. On April 24, the Seahawks were no-hit, made eight errors and lost 27-0 against Monmouth Academy. But Monday, Boothbay recorded a stellar performance by beating Hall-Dale, 3-1, at Sherman Field.
Boothbay took an early lead with a run in the second inning. Hall-Dale tied it with a run in the fifth inning. The Seahawks rallied with two more runs in the sixth inning to claim their first victory. For Coach Ed Crocker, the first win was satisfying against Hall-Dale (1-2). "This was big for us. Yes, it was our first win, but Hall-Dale is a good club which will win a few games in Class C which will help us along the way," he said.
Boothbay scored three runs on four hits. Dylan Crypowitz provided the big bat in the line-up with a single and three runs batted in. Matt Reed had two singles in two at-bats. Aiden Locke singled once and drew two walks.
Pitcher Casey Phelps pitched a complete game and didn't allow an earned run. He threw 66 strikes on 107 pitches. Phelps allowed three hits, walked two and struck out 13.
Boothbay improves its record to 1-2 and, as of April 28, is in second place in the Class D South standings. On April 29, Boothbay hosts Class B Mountain Valley (1-1) and travels to Class D Madison (0-2) May 1.
