Peter currently serves as a full-time chaplain at the Maine State Prison, Maine’s maximum-security correctional facility. He provides administrative and management support for fourteen religions, along with pastoral care, spiritual counseling, crisis support, and end-of-life ministry for residents and staff. His work reflects the Maine Model of Corrections, which emphasizes rehabilitation, accountability, mutual respect, community reintegration, and compassion, resulting in the lowest reactivation rate in the United States by 40 percentage points.
Before entering correctional ministry, Peter served Congregational churches along the New England coast for nearly two decades, including the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. During those years, he quietly held the profound insights from his two near-death experiences as he accompanied people through life’s most difficult passages—grief, illness, loss, poverty, domestic violence, and spiritual awakening.
Peter later spent 15 years as a television writer and on-air personality for NBC television stations in Maine, where his daily inspirational segment reached more than 33 million viewers annually, according to Nielsen ratings. During this time, Peter also worked in Manhattan with The National Council of Churches, Odyssey Network, The Hallmark Channel, and Bravo. His book, Two Minutes for God: Quick Fixes for the Spirit, grew out of more than 1,700 television devotionals and reflections.
Peter, an Audible bestselling author of Heaven Is Beautiful: How Dying Taught Me That Death Is Just The Beginning, a public mystic, and an internationally recognized near-death experiencer and global public speaker affiliated with the International Association for Near-Death Studies, has devoted nearly five decades to the study and practice of contemplation, meditation, and Kriya Yoga. Drawing on a lifetime of mystical experience, the inward journey, pastoral ministry, scholarship, and spiritual direction, he speaks with warmth, humor, humility, and authenticity about suffering, beauty, transformation, truth, and the Limitless Love at the heart of existence.
Today, Peter continues to provide spiritual counseling and guidance to individuals seeking deeper meaning, healing, and understanding following life-changing spiritual awakenings or near-death experiences.
