Ocean Point Column: Remembering Chris Webber and scheduling summer events
Finally spring has arrived although the temperatures and weather feel more like winter. I do hope the weather improves as we count the days until seasonal water returns.
I recently had the opportunity to watch “Antiques Roadshow” which as you know filmed in Boothbay last June. Many Ocean Pointers were lucky enough to attend the event and to my surprise Alex Hall was featured in the promo leading up to the show.
I’m always very sad when I write about the passing of an Ocean Pointer. I recently learned that Chris Webber passed away peacefully Feb. 12. Chris and his wife Coco and their boys were longtime residents of Ocean Point.
Chris possessed many talents and interests throughout his life including his law practice, his involvement in the Wallingford, Vermont community, music, sports, flying and fishing. Chris graduated from Middlebury College and went on to earn his law degree from the University of Maine; he then returned to Vermont to join his family’s law practice.
Some of Chris’s accomplishments include: assisting in building the first hockey rink in Rutland,Vermont where he organized a pee wee hockey program; becoming an experienced pilot; and composing many musical collections.
Ocean Point was a favorite place for Chris to relax and enjoy especially if he were out on the water fishing with his sons or walking along the shore with Coco.
Chris is survived by his wife Coco; his son Christopher and wife Hannah and their children Chip and Hayes; his son Peter and husband Greg Winter; and his sister Mary Monroe.
Contributions in Chris’s memory may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis,TN 38105, www.stjude.org.
As we move through spring it’s time to turn our attention to the upcoming summer season of activities. Ginna Yerrall is busy compiling many fun events for all to enjoy. If you have an idea for an activity please send it along to her or if you would like to become involved in volunteering we welcome your help. Ginna is specifically looking for volunteers to head up the August Bake Sale, Trivia Night, and the Barbecue Dinner.
Visit the website for all pertinent information regarding the OPCT or to purchase Ocean Point merchandise.
Happy spring and have a great week!
