As I’m writing this week’s column some much needed rain has arrived. Due to the drought-like conditions, our lawn resembles a field of hay and It has been a challenge keeping up with the watering of the flowers.

Another week of fun activities were provided by several people. Thank you to Matt and Kathy Lindley for an outstanding lobster bake last Saturday evening; it was the perfect night to sit on the deck and feast on lobster with all of the fixings.

Thank you to Liz Dawson for hosting the S’mores night on Tuesday and to the Yahns for organizing the ice cream social on Wednesday.

Robert and Cookie Dana and Pete and Mary Ripley hosted a wonderful porch party last Thursday; thank you to both couples.

Taco night was very well attended thanks to the organization of Ginna Yerrall. Assisting Ginna were Kathy Lindley, Cara Pond, Stephanie Kaler and her friend Katie, Alicia Raymond, Maureen Driscoll and Lisa Rush.

Cara and Mark Pond once again organized the cornhole tournament with a large and lively crowd participating. Congratulations to the winners Robert Driscoll and Jen Anderson and many thanks to the Ponds.

There was another large crowd playing softball on Sunday which ended in a tie game 5-5,something that doesn’t happen too often.

Congratulations to Tim Mahoney who competed in the Beach to Beacon Road Race. Tim trained long and hard for this race and his efforts certainly paid off.

This week’s activities included a kid’s game of Right,Left,Center on Monday, Aug. 3.

The Stress Reduction class scheduled for Tuesday evening has been moved to Aug. 12.

The History Committee is once again planning a presentation of the history of Ocean Point in the early 1900s on Wednesday evening beginning at 7. Come and join them in this interesting and informative event.

Summerween is Friday evening from 5 to 6. Please check with Abby about joining in this fun event for the kids and contact Carrie Newell cnewell77@aol.com if you would like to be added to the list of houses who will be participating.

Paul and Sue Taylor have been chosen to be the official honorees in the first Paddlepalooza to be held Saturday, Aug. 8 at Murray Hill beginning at 8 a.m. This event is sponsored by the Boothbay Sea and Science Center and is being held to raise funds for their Financial Assistance Program. Paddlers of all skill levels are invited to join in this fun-filled event. Online registration is available at www.boothbayseaandsciencecenter.org. Congratulations to Paul and Sue. 

The Rev. Sandy Daly, United Church of Christ (ret.), Edgecomb, will conduct Sunday Services at the Wilson Memorial Chapel on Sunday morning, Aug. 9 beginning at 9:30. All are welcome.

The second ball game grill will be held immediately following the game on Sunday. Bring a side dish/salad or dessert to share -- burgers and hot dogs will be provided.

Sadly, it’s almost time for our college students to return to campus and joining them this year will be cousins Addy Cleary and Hadley Hornor. Addy will attend the College of Charleston and Hadley will attend Butler University to study dance. Jack Kaler will attend Roger Williams University. We wish them all the best.
