Ocean Point Column: Lots to enjoy!
Activities are in full swing here at Ocean Point and this past weekend was a busy one.
The Town Hall was well attended last Thursday evening. If you are interested in being a contributor to the OPCT but have not yet made your contribution please do so. The same holds true for racquet sports fees. Payment may be made on line or via mail to OPCT P.O. Box 642, East Boothbay, Maine 04544.
There are many to thank for last week’s activities. Thank you to Jonathan and Kate Dawson for a fun and wonderful Horribles Parade and to the many band members as well as the participants and spectators all along the route. I believe that this year’s parade was one of the largest in quite a few years.
It was a great turnout for the OP 5K and Fun Run that took place early Sunday. Many thanks to Stephanie Kaler and Kelly Robbins for there many hours of planning and organizing and to all the volunteers who assisted in the success of the race.
The first softball game of the season found Team Dawson defeating Team Anderson 8-4 and in Sunday’s game Team Rush defeated Team Dawson 4-3.
Ocean Pointer Abby Clark is once again competing on "American Ninja Warrior" and by the time you read this we will know the results of the quarterfinal match. This is Abby’s 8th appearance on the show, which was previously recorded in Las Vegas.
Regularly scheduled activities will take place this week along with Adult Right Left Center on Tuesday evening beginning at 7:30.
Chef Matt Martin will conduct a cooking class on Wednesday evening, July 9 at 5. Space is limited and sign up is at the Casino, bring your beverage of choice to what I’m sure will truly be a delicious culinary experience.
Plan on attending what I know will be an interesting and informative evening Thursday, July 10. Starting at 7, the Historic Committee has organized another night of learning of the history of Ocean Point. Jeff Slayton will once again take on the role of interviewer and we’ll hear from Ocean Point residents Bibbs Fowler and Marsha Donald about their early years vacationing at the Point.
Barb Slayton and Ginna Yerrall will be hosting the first Food Sale Friday, July 11 at 9:30 a.m. You are asked to bring your food items to the Casino by 9. The sale is a great way to purchase some delicious homemade food for the upcoming weekend and participate in the raffle. Please stay and enjoy coffee, donuts and fun conversation.
There are two events planned on Saturday, July 12. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., the Driscoll Family will host the Pancake Breakfast; and they will flip pancakes until 10. Later in the evening Ginna Yerrall has organized a catered Barbecue Dinner by the Bridge House Bbq @the footbridge. If you have had the opportunity to taste the barbecue at Bridge House then you know how delicious their food is. The dinner begins at 6 and tickets can be purchased on line. Adults are $32. and Children are $16.
Rev. Peter Panagore Not Church: Mysticism West and East, You Tube Best Selling Author, Near Death Experiencer, Ocean Point Maine will conduct Services at the Wilson Chapel on Sunday, July 13 beginning at 9:30. All are welcome.
The Brown Family will again host the Ball Game Grill on Sunday, July 13 immediately following the softball game. Please bring a side dish/salad to share.
Monday morning, July 14 the Boothbay Ambulance Service will conduct a First Aid Review at 9 a.m. Important and vital information to know.
A kid’s Movie Night is planned July 14 on the Raymond’s lawn at 6.
The All Star game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 15 and so baseball fans will be happy to learn that a watch party has been planned beginning at 8 at the Casino.

Congratulations to Owen Dawon on his recent high school graduation. Owen will be attending Maine Maritime in the fall. Owen also has his lobster license and has started a small business. Contact Owen if you would like to purchase lobsters.
