Ocean Point Column: Arrivals, events and more
Like many of you, I was hoping that the first day of summer would be filled with sunshine and warmer temperatures from start to finish. We woke up to a beautiful sunny but cool morning and then the afternoon clouds rolled in followed by rain.
The entire spring season with the exception of a few days has been unseasonably cool and rainy here.
It’s nice to see that this past weekend was a bit busier with Ocean Pointers arriving for the season and boats bobbing on moorings.
Tim and Abby Mahoney have arrived to begin their shared AD duties that will begin this week. The Activities Committee chaired by Ginna Yerrall have put together a robust calendar of events this summer. Please see the calendar posted on the website for information regarding the activities. Many thanks to Ginna and her committee. As always please check the website and the Casino bulletin board for any and all updates.
Luke Driscoll will step in to handle the AD duties on Abby and Tim’s day off, Monday. Thank you to Luke for taking on this task.

There is exciting news from the Clark family. Sue and Joe Clark’s daughter Devon is following in her grandfather and father’s profession and has recently stepped into the role of assistant golf pro at the Dedham Golf and Polo Club in Dedham, Massachusetts as she enters the PGA program.
It is with great sadness that I write about the recent passing of long-time Ocean Point resident David Butterworth on June 5.
David was born in Boston, raised in the south shore community of Hingham, and attended Thayer Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts. He continued his education at Nichols College.
After receiving his degree David proudly served his country for two years in the Army and upon completion of his service returned to join the family business. David was also employed by the Silbert Paper Company and later the Perkins Paper Company.
Serving others and giving back were important to David; he served on many boards and organizations throughout his life. David happily gave of his time and talent to help those in need.
Here at Ocean Point David was past president of the Ocean Point Colony Trust and a grant writer for the Lincoln County organization Rebuilding Together.
David enjoyed every moment of his time at Ocean Point and all that it had to offer; playing tennis, golf, sailing, walking along the shore, Sunday softball and getting together and spending time with Ocean Point friends and, more importantly, his family.
David was a very kind and caring man with a great sense of humor and a winning smile; he loved a good practical joke and a good party. He was a true and loyal friend and always so very generous with his time and talent.
Our condolences to David’s wife Alison, his son David and wife Croi and his grandchildren Zoe Anne and Calum, his sister Joan and her family and the Turpie family.
A celebration of life will be held later in the summer and donations in David’s name may be made to Deep Well Project of Hilton Head (deepwellproject.org) or Rebuilding Together of Lincoln County Maine (rebuildingtogether-La.org).
Enjoy Windjammer Days and have a great week!
