Mustangs, Laverdiere down Seahawks 61-33
Levi Laverdiere lit up Porter Memorial Gym Tuesday night, Jan. 20 with a 27-point performance as the Monmouth Mustangs ran away with a 61-33 road win over the Boothbay Region Seahawks.
Laverdiere, the Mustangs’ point guard, propelled the visitors out to a 17-3 lead nailing three of the team’s five 3-pointers in the first quarter.
The Seahawks had trouble with Monmouth’s full-court press and committed several turnovers in the quarter. The home team did a bit better in the second quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 9-7 but went into halftime still trailing, 24-12.
Laverdiere and Jacob Harmon combined for 15 points in the third quarter as the Mustangs all but put the game away as they built a 25-point lead, 47-22, going into the final eight minutes of play.
Monmouth, a top-three team in Class D South, improved to 7-5 on the season while Boothbay dropped to 3-11. Harmon ended up with nine points, Josh Iwuanyanwu added eight and Parsons six for the Mustangs.
Peyton Barter led Boothbay with 10 points (two 3-pointers) and Les White added eight (two 3-pointers).
The Seahawks are next scheduled to travel to Rumford on Thursday, Jan. 22 to face the Mountain Valley Falcons (3-8), a Class C South team, followed by a game in Dixfield on Monday, Jan. 26 against the Dirigo Cougars (7-5), another Class C South team.
