Midcoast Conservancy is hosting a free training for interested hikers and curious outdoorspeople to aid in the organization’s annual property monitoring process. The training will be held on Monday, Sept. 8, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., at the Midcoast Conservancy office at 290 Route One, Edgecomb. 

If you enjoy hiking and discovering new places, you can help monitor the nearly 16,000 acres that Midcoast Conservancy stewards. Property monitors help by volunteering their time to walk preserved lands throughout the Midcoast region and take note of activities that might hurt ecological integrity and harm wildlife habitat, such as timber trespasses and trash dumping. There are monitoring options for anyone who is interested - ranging from easy strolls along established trails to challenging bushwhacks deep into the wild places of the Midcoast.

Monitoring takes place from September through November each year, on lands both owned by Midcoast Conservancy and by private landowners that have conservation easements with the organization.
