Local groups urge neighbors to vote early
On Saturday, Oct. 17, neighbors across Lincoln County will join a nationwide “No Kings: Vote Early” Day of Action, encouraging Mainers to make their voices heard in the November midterm elections.
While decisions made by those in power affect our everyday lives—from the cost of groceries, gas and electricity to healthcare, and our public safety—elections determine who gets to make those decisions.
“Power belongs to the people—but only if we use it,” said Joan Schwartz of Lincoln County Indivisible (LCI), the sponsor of the event. “October 17 is a chance for neighbors to come together, talk with one another, and make a plan to vote.”
Local events include:
-
9:30–10:30 a.m. — Wiscasset Bridge Standout
-
10–11:15 a.m. — Bath Bridge Standout
-
11 a.m.–Noon — Newcastle Veterans Park Rally
-
Noon–1 p.m. — Damariscotta Bridge Standout
Maine voters can now cast ballots in person at their town office. The Saturday event will include signs, speakers and information to encourage voters to:
-
Make a plan to vote early if you can.
-
Check in with neighbors who may need a ride or other assistance.
-
Share reliable voting information with friends and family.
-
Get involved in local election-protection efforts.
“Voting is something we can do together, neighbor to neighbor,” said Schwartz. “A reminder, a ride, or a conversation can make the difference in helping someone participate.”
The Oct. 17 events will also provide opportunities to meet local candidates and learn about area organizations working to protect voting rights and strengthen participation beyond Election Day.
Organizers are committed to peaceful, people-led action. Participants are asked to treat one another and the broader community with respect and to keep all events nonviolent, welcoming, and focused on civic participation.
