Gavin P. Martin Foundation donates $2,500 to Edgecomb Fire Dept.

Edgecomb Fire Department received a $2,500 contribution Sept. 26 from the Gavin P. Martin Foundation. Courtesy photoGavin Martin lived a short, but remarkable life. Martin worked as a volunteer fireman in two communities. He began his public service in his hometown of Verona, New Jersey and later served in Edgecomb.
Shortly after his death in December 2025 at age 21, his family set up the Gavin P. Martin Foundation which benefits local fire departments. A board of directors was set up and, with a sponsorship from the Verona Local Policemen’s Benevolent Association No. 72, the foundation was established.
On Sept. 26, the Foundation donated $2,500 to Edgecomb Fire Department. Over 40 firefighters from the New England region participated in a fire and extrication training held in Lincoln County. Local participating fire departments included Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, Alna, South Bristol and Wiscasset.
The fundraiser collected donations and sponsorships resulting into the contribution into the foundation.
According to its website, the Gavin P. Martin Foundation transforms compassion into action by supporting community-based initiatives that embody service, entrepreneurship and dedication. “We honor Gavin's legacy by investing in young and old alike, empowering service organizations, fostering entrepreneurial spirit, advancing vocational training, and strengthening civic engagement,” the website reads.
