Lincoln Festival Chorus sings 'Vivaldi Gloria' Aug. 8 and 10
A favorite of audiences and performers alike, the joyful "Vivaldi Gloria" will be conducted by artistic director Linda Blanchard, and performed with professional soloists and orchestra, on Friday, Aug. 8 and Sunday, Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. For more information, contact Lincoln Arts Festival at 207- 633-3913 or lincolnartsfestivalbbh@gmail.com.
For two centuries after Vivaldi’s death, the Gloria lay undiscovered until the late 1920s, when it was found buried among a pile of forgotten Vivaldi manuscripts. It was not performed until September 1939 and found instant popularity. Vivaldi's accessible Gloria has since been performed in thousands of performances worldwide.
As a special treat, tenor soloist David Myers-Wakeman will sing The Skyliners hit "Since I Don't Have You," arranged by accompanist Sean Fleming. Also featured will be several numbers from the Randall Thompson setting of Robert Frost's poems, "Frostiana." With the perennial favorite the Delibes "Flower Duet," sung by soprano Mary Sullivan and mezzo-soprano Joëlle Morris, jazz sung by Joëlle Morris, and a William Dawson spiritual setting, this concert is sure to be a favorite of audiences!
Tickets are $20 and are available online at lincolnartsfestival.org or at Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop in Boothbay Harbor. They may also be purchased at the door starting 30 minutes prior to each performance.
