Latest 5 good things
On this next to last installment of 2025's five good things that happened in or near Wiscasset, we start with a November classic, one to always be thankful for: People voted. Area residents, on Election Day or by absentee ballot, did their part in deciding issues state and local.
And of course, you can thank a veteran for our being able to vote. Veterans Day observances in Wiscasset, Woolwich and elsewhere in the region honored those who have served. From the pledge of allegiance, to the playing of "Reveille" and placing of wreaths, these ceremonies are some of the most important things that happen all year.
Wiscasset again this year upped its welcoming beauty with help from volunteers decking the downtown for the holidays. A commute or a shopping stroll, like at Wiscasset Holiday Marketfest Dec. 5-7, made more festive by those residents' efforts on a chilly November day.
The masons' Lincoln Lodge #3's free Thanksgiving meal at Wiscasset Community Center, St. Philip's Church's continued efforts through its Help Yourself Shelf food pantry, and other people's help with all this reminded us the Wiscasset area isn't just pretty; more importantly, it can be very thoughtful.
This one didn't happen in Wiscasset but is important to Wiscasset. Wiscasset Fire Department shared a Facebook post showing its leaders went to Florida for the final inspection of the new Engine 1. The department's post read, "To say we're getting excited is an understatement!!"
Week's positive parting thoughts: The Patriots' success continues. And best of luck this season, Wolverines basketball!
