Last days! Catch Fiore exhibit and plein air show
Summer days fly by all too quickly, and the exhibit of works by Joseph Fiore (1925-2008), a significant painter of the Maine landscape will end on Aug. 24. Also coming to a close on that day is a sale of plein air paintings by Maine artists who created their art during the month-long “Paint it! Maine” event that began in early July.
“Fiore at 100: Maine Observed,” is presented in partnership with The Maine Farmland Trust. The show has been extremely well received. Referencing one of his works, arts critic Jorge Arango stated in the Portland Press Herald: “A painting like “Solar Eclipse,” created five years before his death, is about as perfect a painting as one can have.”
Sales of paintings from the Fiore show benefit The Maine Farmland Trust, which received of a large number of Fiore’s paintings from the artist’s trust, and the Maine Art Gallery.
On Aug. 28, the gallery re-opens with “Made in Maine,” works in painting, drawing, textiles, sculpture, photography, and assemblage by Maine Art Gallery members. The exhibit runs through Oct. 18, with an opening reception during Wiscasset Art Walk, Thursday, Aug. 28 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Music by singer/songwriter Judy Caswell.
This annual exhibit provides member artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in a particularly fine exhibit space, Wiscasset’s former Old Academy building on Warren Street.
