Juniper and McKown Points Column: News from Pointers
The Point seems quieter these and there is a crisp, autumn feel to the mornings and evening.
From Dan Hazelton:
Greetings from France. Donna and I will be at home here until mid-September, when we will return to the Point. I thought the following might be of interest to you and your readers:
Brook Hazelton, who grew up playing on our courts, was recently honored at the Newport Professional Tennis Tournament for his victory in the over 50 National Grass Court Championships and his number one ranking in New England. Brook also is ranked number one in the US in court Tennis in his age group.
Hope you are having a nice summer and that I will see you in the fall.
From Becky and Dave:
We have had a blast and will leave full of fun memories with so many wonderful people here at Juniper Point! Thank you everyone for making this place so special!
Next week we are offering some bonus clinics for adults and juniors - Monday - Wednesday 9-10:30 a.m. (adults, all levels) and 3:30-6 p.m. (red, orange, green ball). The themes, days, and times are listed below. Please let Dave or Susan know if you would like to participate. Limited space is available.
The Taylor family heads back to New Hampshire on Saturday, Aug. 23. Those still around can enjoy the courts for another couple of months.
Three cheers for Juniper Point!!
From Kit Andrews:
Attendees at the August history/storytelling event had a splendid time. Bill Keller and Jodi Thomas (on behalf of the Sylvester/Sibley family) gave the two presentations, backed by slides depicting the histories of their two cottages and their forbears. Many thanks to the Dave and Becky Taylor family for readying the Community House last month and this, to Margie and Bob Gibbons for providing delicious refreshments, and to Jodi for putting together the slide show. Distinguished attendees included Genie O’Connell, granddaughter of Manley and Mildred Reed, and Margaret Kelly representing the Orne family of Orne’s Hill (along the “S curve” between the West Boothbay P.O. and Hospital Point). We are finding that volunteering to present on one’s beloved spot on this Point and the people who got us started here is a great incentive for collecting photos, interviewing family members and diving deeper into our stories. Interested in following suit next summer? Contact Jodi Thomas or Kit Andrews.
