Julie Ravenel Boothe Perry 89, a native of Alexandria, Virginia, and long-time resident of East Boothbay, passed away peacefully on Aug. 1, 2026 surrounded by family in Newcastle, Maine.

Julie was a strong, independent woman with a thirst for knowledge and a deep love of nature. She approached the world with an open mind and heart. 

During her years at Sweet Briar College, she traveled to Mexico to help families in underprivileged communities, an experience that instilled in her a commitment to service.

A passion for politics led her to campaign at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago and to support the work of progressive leaders her entire life.

She was a journalist and author who devoted countless hours to her community including Alexandria’s Bicentennial Commission and Third Century Scholarship Fund as well as Boothbay’s Harbor Theater. 

Julie’s love of the Maine coast began as a child. After moving here in the early 1990s, this love blossomed while living along the Damariscotta River, gardening and during long walks in the woods. This was also expressed in her art where she incorporated astrology and dream work into quilting, silk screening, sculpture and hand-crafted furniture.

Strongly influenced by fellowship, and shaped by her yoga practice, Julie came to know that life was a journey of personal and spiritual growth, and leaving the world a better person than when she entered it was important. This was most apparent as she sponsored many young women to transform their lives through recovery.

Above all else, she cherished her family. She is survived by her devoted husband Charlie, their three children and spouses: Army and Sarah English, Katherine and Mike, and Robin and Sergio; four grandchildren and partners: Elizabeth and John, Boothe and Anne, Madeleine and Troy and Matilde and Henrique; and five great grandchildren, Charlotte, Caroline, Ravenel, Armistead and Billie.

Julie’s youthful spirit and radiant smile will be sorely missed by those who loved her deeply. Her legacy endures in all those she touched, the family she nurtured, and the example she set through a life lived in wonder, service and joy.
