Joy Vaughan first 2026 Artist of the Month
The Bremen Library is pleased to be hosting Joy Vaughan as our first 2026 Artist of the Month!
Vaughan lives in South Bristol next to the Damariscotta River which is the source of inspiration for her images. The ever changing sky, wildlife, landscape and water provide a multitude of images and nourishment for her spirit. Joy began learning about design and painting as a teenager when her piano lessons couldn’t be scheduled and the school found a place for her in an art class.
She had an instant revelation about design on her first day in that class and said to herself, “I have to learn this language.” She has been learning the language ever since. Besides making silkscreened and painted images, Joy teaches art in her home studio and volunteers at Coastal Rivers and the South Bristol Library, two of her favorite places.
Joy’s work will be on display for the month of January in the Bremen Library Meeting Room Gallery, with an artist’s reception on Thursday, Jan. 8 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Reception is free and open to all. Her art can be viewed during regular library hours: Wednesday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Thursday 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Friday 10 a..m - 3 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. - noon.
