Maureen Heffernan is the choice to fill a vacancy on the Edgecomb School Committee. On Oct. 5, the committee appointed Heffernan to fill an unexpired term created by Irene Marchenay’s resignation last month.

Marchenay resigned following an exchange with a “vocal minority” at the Sept. 20 community forum. In her resignation email to the committee, she said the “community forum’s overall negative tone” led to her decision.

During the Sept. 23 school committee meeting, Chairman Heather Sinclair recommended appointing Heffernan to the vacancy.  "Given her recent campaign for a seat on this board, I will reach out to her and inform her of my intent to nominate her," Sinclair said.

In May, Heffernan had unsuccessfully sought election to the school committee. Her term expires in May 2027.
