Glory Blethen competes in All-Armed Forces basketball tournament
Glory Blethen, former outstanding player for the Boothbay Region High School girls basketball team and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy women’s basketball team, recently participated in the All-Armed Forces basketball tournament for the U.S. Navy squad. The tournament for men and women was held May 11-17 at at Paige Field House on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California
Besides the Navy team, which included U.S. Coast Guard athletes, teams included the Marine Corps, Air Force (with Space Force athletes) and Army.
“It was an incredible experience, and while the Air Force ultimately took home the gold, it was a fantastic, hard-fought competition,” said Blethen in an email to the newspaper. “I was able to play with my former teammate from the Coast Guard Academy, Kira Wood. The tournament determined the All-Armed Forces teams, where they selected the top-performing athletes from the tournament to go represent Team USA at the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) Basketball Championship in France (in late June/early July). I was one of the 12 female athletes selected to go. I am incredibly humbled and grateful for this unique opportunity, and I know for a fact I wouldn't have made it without the unwavering support of Northland and Tahoma.”
