Gary C. Wells
Gary C. Wells, 80, a longtime resident of Essex Junction, Vermont, and Boothbay Harbor, Maine, passed away peacefully on Aug. 24, 2025, at the Applewood Care and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, New Hampshire.
Born in Colchester, Vermont, on Nov. 7, 1944, Gary was the son of Clyde and Ardelle (Packard) Wells.
A 1962 graduate of Essex High School, Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Gary dedicated 32 years to IBM in Essex Junction, Vermont, where he worked as an engineering technician.
After retiring, he moved to Boothbay Harbor, where he spent 10 years. He later relocated to Spofford, New Hampshire, to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Family brought Gary his greatest joy. He was a dedicated supporter of his loved ones, often volunteering coaching or umpiring his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He would proudly attend his grandchildren’s ski races across New England and tell anyone he met how proud he was of them.
Gary will be deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, Bernadette “Bonnie” D. (Smith) Wells of Boothbay Harbor; his daughters, Kimberly Garrett and her husband, Shawn, of Colchester, Vermont, and Heather Graves and her husband, Sean, of Spofford, New Hampshire; and his three grandchildren, Colby Garrett, Tanner Graves, and Shelby Graves.
He is also survived by his brother, Robert Wells and his wife, Lynn, of Milton, Vermont; his sister-in-law, Sandy Cahill and her husband, Paul, of Waterbury Center, Vermont; his dear longtime friends, Vickie Carver of West Boothbay Harbor and Doug and Becky Carter of Boothbay Harbor; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was predeceased by his brother, Lewis Wells, and a dear longtime friend, Ernie Carver.
