Eleanor D. Dodge
Eleanor D. Dodge, 95, of East Boothbay, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, at the Sussman House in Rockport.
Born in Berlin, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of Ernest C. and Marion C. (Genthner) Barter. Eleanor attended Boothbay Region schools from kindergarten through high school and remained deeply connected to the community she called home throughout her life.
In 1952, Eleanor married her high school sweetheart, Royall Dodge. The couple wed just before Royall was deployed to serve during the Korean War, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned more than 70 years.
Following her education, Eleanor worked as a teacher's aide at Boothbay Elementary School, where she enjoyed helping and encouraging generations of local children. She was known for her kind heart, gentle nature, and dedication to her family and community.
Eleanor found joy in knitting handmade treasures for her grandchildren. She also generously gave her time as a volunteer at the St. Andrews Auxiliary Thrift Shop, where she enjoyed serving others and connecting with friends. At home, she enjoyed family visits, especially looking forward each year to the annual summer visit from her sister, Sara Nehrbauer, and her family from New York. She also treasured the companionship of her beloved cat, Buffy.
She was predeceased by her husband, Royall Dodge, in 2024.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Sandra M. Tibbetts of Waterboro and Brenda M. Pinkham and her husband, Dale, of Sidney; her grandchildren, John C. Tibbetts and his spouse, Erin McNally, of Windham, Jessica Pinkham of Norridgewock, and Amy Pinkham of Sidney; her great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Emma and Royall; as well as extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
