Cougars edge Seahawks 55-53
The Dirigo Cougars overcame a six-point deficit going into the fourth quarter and edged the visiting Boothbay Region Seahawks, 55-53, in Dixfield Saturday, Jan. 31.
The Seahawks held leads of 14-6, 24-15 and 40-34 at the first three breaks, but Dirigo outscored Boothbay, 21-13, in the fourth quarter to improve to 9-7 on the season. With the loss, Boothbay fell to 4-13.
Senior Simeon Bates led Boothbay with 25 points, with 10 of those coming in the first quarter. Chase Licursi added 12 points to the Seahawks' effort.
Three Dirigo players scored 13 points each, Liam Malchicky, Owen Smith and Brody Phillorick.
The Cougars were 17 of 22 from the free throw line and Boothbay was 5 of 9.
The Seahawks are scheduled to host Winthrop on Monday, Feb. 2. Bates and fellow seniors Harry Hinckley and Spencer Wood will be recognized before the game for their years of dedication.
