“No one should go without,” said Holly Stover, director of operations of Boothbay Region Community Resource Council, as part of her brief talk at the grand opening ceremony of the Community Fridge on Thursday morning, Oct. 27.

Stover and 13 other people gathered for the ceremony at the Community Fridge in a building next to the Boothbay Town Office. The Community Fridge is a 24/7 help yourself pantry style program that will provide healthy, nutritional food and other staples to people experiencing food insecurity.

BRCRC partnered with Boothbay to house a community refrigerator, chest freezer and shelving for dry goods.

Stover, on behalf of the staff and board members of BRCRC – some of whom were there – thanked all of the community organizations and people involved in making the Community Fridge possible, including Boothbay Town Manager Dan Bryer, the Boothbay board of selectmen, Boothbay Region Food Pantry, Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club, Boothbay Region YMCA, First National Bank, Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor and others.

The Rev. Todd Weir of Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor asked attendees to touch the Community Fridge structure while he read a blessing.

The Community Fridge will accept donations of food (packaged, canned, fresh, or frozen), household products and dry goods. Monetary donations to help stock the facility can also be made through the BRCRC website or by mail at P.O. Box 43, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
