Cannon blast
Dear Editor:
There is an individual on Southport Island that is firing a cannon at passing tour boats. I was aboard a tour boat on the evening of Aug. 29 with family and friends celebrating the wedding of a family member and as the boat approached the bridge we passed fairly close to a house on Southport Island and the occupant fired a cannon directly at the boat.
The blast was alarming. We continued on and enjoyed our boat ride but this was clearly a malicious act. It felt like an assault and I am sure that was the intent. I was told that this happens every time the boat passes this particular house.
We live in a society and one of the tenets of all societies is to condemn wanton acts of violence. It is a sad man who would spend his time trying to frighten others.
