Boothbay Harbor warrant, budget votes set for May 2
Boothbay Harbor residents will vote on the 18-article town warrant, which includes a proposed $6,763,908 fiscal year 2027 budget and several articles on tax bills. Municipal officer elections are May 1.
This year’s budget includes $4,336,914 to fund municipal business, with the largest items being police ($1,129,898), public works ($688,977), and paving and construction ($350,000). The budget also includes $1,620,863 for services including hydrant ($761,430), the same as last year, and refuse operations ($680,684), which decreased $18,523. Support organizations were budgeted at $806,132, largely from ambulance services ($602,497).
The selectmen and budget committee recommend the town use and appropriate $1,904,043 in estimated revenue to reduce the property tax commitment.
Overall, the proposed FY27 budget is an about 5.6% increase from last year’s total budget.
In addition, several articles outline establishing a date when taxes are due and payable, and fixing a rate of interest on delinquent taxes (7%). Article 8 asks voters to authorize municipal officers, on behalf of the town, to sell and convey any real estate acquired for non-payment of taxes and execute quitclaim deeds.
May 1, elections will be held at the Boothbay Harbor Fire Station from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to fill six openings for officers on five committees. The election includes a four-way race for two selectboard seats. The town meeting and remaining warrant votes are scheduled for 9 a.m. May 2 at the fire station, where officers will be sworn in.
