Boothbay Harbor comprehensive plan moving forward
The Boothbay Harbor comprehensive plan process is making progress, according to Selectboard Chair Michael Tomko. Tomko gave his peers an update Dec. 22.
Tomko said the comprehensive plan committee had its first meeting Dec. 17. Tomko, a member of the committee, said the group met virtually with consultant VHP and discussed responsibilities, project approach, schedule and structure.
According to Tomko, VHB will research town needs and engage community members through the town, committee, or focus groups to gather input. The committee then reviews the materials and sets its goals. VHB then creates an implementation strategy and comprehensive plan.
"The idea is we're getting a document that just doesn't sit on a shelf, but actually shows us where to go,” Tomko said.
Tomko said the committee plans to meet once a month and will engage community members at several steps in the process. The next meeting is Jan. 20.
Selectman Ken Rayle also encouraged residents to participate. “Hopefully, you will hear a lot more about it. And, if you are asked, please engage yourself into the process and help us make for a good plan.”
In other business, the board voted to approve changes to the Community School District (CSD) Charter as part of an ongoing process. The vote was the final approval needed to move the bill forward to legal and legislative review after being approved by both CSD boards and the Boothbay Selectboard.
In addition, after the fire chief and public works foreman resigned from his positions, Town Manager Julia Latter confirmed with the Register that they were being filled by existing staff following the management structure. She said First Assistant Fire Chief Glenn Tilton is acting fire chief, and Public Works Assistant Foreman Eric Hyson is acting foreman. Latter said the town has not yet approved permanent replacements or listed either position for hiring.
