No hyperbole - it was another amazing weekend! The weather gods once again blessed the area with ideal conditions and the social director created a lineup so full of activities that it barely gave anyone time for any wardrobe changes.

Friday night kicked off with an old school screening of “Back to the Future” at the Waterfront Cinema. You won’t find the theater as it was literally built and disassembled overnight, but I have it on good authority it will pop up next year. Thank you to Neil Wiltshire and crew! Snacks by Stephanie provided the popcorn. The seagulls appreciated the leftovers and spillage.

The next morning the Community House came to life when Olivia Tennant gave the town siren a workout and let the world know that the 116th BVC annual meeting was about to get underway. The next two hours were full of fun and frivolity and when it was all (finally) over, the big news was that a new tennis court with two pickleball courts was approved, but there was a caveat. The hard work now begins as 25k needs to be raised by the end of August to make this thing happen. We appreciate everyone’s unanimous vote, and now we are looking for overwhelming financial participation from the community. No donation is too small - or too big. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could say everyone contributed? Probably a bit optimistic, but please give if you can. Don’t forget your donation is tax deductible! If anyone noticed me standing during the meeting and doing a few leg stretches, it wasn’t that I was bored, I was just following doctor’s orders while I recover.

As soon as the meeting ended and the standing ovation began, the chair gang was hard at work and had the Spencemobile fully loaded and on the way to the waterfront in record time in preparation for Betty LaPointe 2026.

Before any lobsters were to be consumed, it was time to head to Boat House Cottage to celebrate the life of Barry Gilchrist. His grandkids, Brittany, Chris, Jeff and Stephanie, were great hosts and had made a poster with touching pictures of Barry with family, friends and some of his favorite sayings. For those who don’t know, Barry did a lot of great things for Bayville - one of his favorites was getting the tennis court built - long before pickleball had been born! Not only that, but Barry was head of the BVC for years, which is practically reason enough for sainthood (insert laugh track here)!

The excitement had been building for weeks when it was announced Robert’s Restaurant would be re-opening for one night only. Everyone who is anyone - and then some - made their way to Waterfront Park with kids, drinks, apps and desserts in tow and claimed their spot for the festivities. There has been stiff competition for the coveted Bayville Buzz in years past, but this year’s Buzzless Buzz, the competitions first nonalcoholic entry, took top prize.

The setting and dinner were amazing. The entertainment is always an added bonus. Michael and Lauren LaCroix and growing family were there, as well as Megan and Ashlyn Lafferty, who will all be visiting our shores more often as the result of some recent purchases. Congratulations to them! When it was all over, Karen and Becky rode through the crowd on the royal chariot as fans clapped and applauded, shouting their heartfelt appreciation. Thank you for another spectacular evening!

John and Stephanie Jordan will be heading back to their Winston-Salem home soon - yes, they are bringing son’s Camden and Oliver with them. School happens to begin on Oliver’s birthday, Aug. 10, so happy birthday Oliver!
