Bayville Buzz
Dad’s Day is here and the Village is alive with the smell of bacon, sausage and burnt toast as kids of all ages prepare breakfast in bed for their dads. Of course, that is reason enough to celebrate, but this year Father’s Day coincides not only with the first day of summer, but the first day of Windjammer Days too, so it was destined to be a special day. I hope all the dads out there felt appreciated and loved and that everyone is ready for a fantastic summer!
Mark Spencer is now fluent in Spanish as he recently completed his third (or was it his fourth?) walk on the Camino de Santiago. It has become quite the family affair and this time, daughter Mary Elizabeth joined Spence for the last nine days. If you have any interest in a meaningful 500-mile walk, Mark is the person you should talk with.
Turning to money, Bayville’s fiscal year ends June 30, so there are still a few days to donate to the BIA or Bayville Fund. Thank you to those who have! Of course, everyone should have paid their BIA dues by now.
The BIA annual meeting is July 4 and BVC is Aug. 1. Once again, there has been a request for a 5-year plan for major capital expenses. Some day it makes sense, but we are focused on trying to build up the coffers. Until then, where and when we fund large projects will depend on how much life is left in some things - such as the dock and dingy floats. As we saw two years ago, weather happens. Let’s all hope the current El Niño is a nice one. For the Northeast, El Niño’s usually mean more rain than snow over the winter, but also the potential for bigger storms. In the summer and fall, there is less chance for hurricanes.
Some members of the community, have also brought up that dues are too low given future needs. Feel free to bring up these questions - or others - at the meetings!
Enjoy the end of Windjammer Days and get fired up for July 4th and our nation’s 250th!
