Fri, 05/29/2026 - 8:54am
Join us at the Southport Memorial Library Thursday, June 11 for an author talk with Bill Genencer as he discusses his book, "Working Waterfront: A Fish Tale." This non-fiction memoir details Bill's decades-long career in New England's seafood industry.
From 6:30 to 8 p.m., Bill will offer an insider's look at the "ocean to table" journey, sharing personal stories, industry insights, and practical tips on selecting and preparing seafood.
Bill Gerencer is a 44-year veteran of the New England Working Waterfront. Bill worked as a lobsterman, and commercial fisherman in the Gulf of Maine and on Georges Bank – one of the most important, and productive, fishing grounds in the world. Bill is committed to sustainability and fisheries and practices that mitigate climate effects. He is currently retired and works as a seafood consultant and author.
"Working Waterfront" is one man’s journey harvesting, handling, processing, buying, and selling seafood. A inside look at the times, people, places and management of New England Fisheries. As with all journeys, it’s also a spiritual one—with recipes!
