By the time you read this in print, we'll be just two days away from one of my favorite community events of the summer, the American Legion Post 36 Community Yard Sale on the Boothbay Common this Saturday, Aug. 8.

Last week I wrote about the sale and invited everyone to participate. If you've been thinking about having a yard sale but just haven't gotten around to making plans, don't worry, you still can. 

The best part is that no registration is required. Just load your items into your vehicle, come to the Common Saturday morning, find an open spot, and set up. We have plenty of room, and we'd love to see even more families and individuals join us. Whether you're cleaning out the attic, the garage, the basement, or just have a few things you'd like to sell, this is a great opportunity. 

Of course, if you're not interested in selling, come anyway! Community yard sales are always fun because you never know what you'll discover. One person's clutter truly becomes another person's treasure. Every year there are antiques, books, tools, household items, collectibles, toys, furniture, and plenty of surprises. Half the fun is simply walking around and seeing friends while hunting for that unexpected bargain. 

And don't worry about lunch. The Legion volunteers will be cooking hamburgers and hot dogs throughout the day, so stop by and enjoy a bite while you're shopping or visiting with neighbors. 

Our own American Legion sale will feature many donated items from generous members of our community. Every purchase helps support the work of Post 36 throughout the year. While everyone enjoys finding a bargain, it's nice to know those dollars stay right here in the Boothbay Region. 

The proceeds from this event supports our Rowe Scholarship Fund, our American Legion Baseball program, assists veterans and veteran organizations, and continue the many community programs that Post 36 sponsors each year. Those funds also help us fulfill our mission of serving veterans and their families whenever a need arises. 

Our American Legion Post has always believed in being more than just a veterans organization. We are part of this community, and events like this allow us to give something back while bringing people together for a day of fun. 

So, if you've got a few things to sell, bring them along Saturday morning. If you're looking for a bargain, come browse. If you just want a good hamburger, a hot dog, and a chance to catch up with friends, we'd love to see you.
