American Legion Post 36
I know it’s only mid-August, and we’re still soaking up the summer sunshine—especially with the gorgeous weather we’ve been having lately—but here at the Post, we’re already looking ahead to one of our favorite fall events.
Mark your calendars: Saturday, October 4 is the date for our Annual Yard Sale & Craft Fair on the Boothbay Common!
It’s perfect timing—right in the heart of leaf-peeping season, when the air is crisp, the scenery is stunning, and the crowds are still strolling through town. For those closing up cottages for the season, it’s also the ideal moment to donate treasures you don’t want to store all winter. This year, thanks to the generous gift of a storage unit from Mid-Coast Properties, we now have a place to keep donated items safe until the big day.
Crafters, take note: most craft fairs are wrapping up by then, but this event offers an extended opportunity to share your work with locals and visitors alike.
The Yard Sale is open to everyone—just $25 for a space. The Post will set up its big tents, but community members are welcome to bring their own tables and join the fun. The Craft Fair will run until 3 p.m., and while the Post’s yard sale tables will wind down around noon, community sellers are welcome to stay until 3 p.m. alongside the crafters.
This event isn’t just a great day out—it’s an important fundraiser for our Post. Proceeds help us support a wide range of local programs, including the Veterans Banner Program, Legion baseball, the American Legion Junior Shooting Sports Program, Scouts, high school scholarships (such as the Legion Oratorical Contest), our Post Veteran Scholarship, and citizenship education through Dirigo State (formerly Boys State and Girls State). We also stand ready to assist in emergencies and work hard to maintain our Post Hall as an affordable community space for weddings, receptions, birthdays, reunions, and other gatherings.
So, why not end the summer on a high note? Donate items, reserve a yard sale space, or sign up for the craft fair—maybe even your last of the season.
For more information or to reserve your spot, call the Post at 633-4487. And keep an eye out for fliers around town—we hope to see you there!
