What is Boothbay Region Community Resources?
The mission of the Boothbay Region Community Resources (BRCR) is to assist persons in need by providing funds, information and referrals in a confidential and collaborative manner. The BRCR also strives to inform the citizens of the region about social services available that may provide help.
Did you know that:
- Fifty percent of students in Boothbay receive free or reduced lunch.
- As of 2012, 333 families are receiving assistance from the food pantry.
- Maine has among the highest rates of food insecurity in the nation, ranking 11th.
- One in eight Maine people lives below the official poverty line, $17,600 for a family of three.
- Since 2001, the cost of heating homes has tripled and nearly 80 percent of Maine residents depend on oil.
- Maine's unemployment rate is 15 percent higher than last year.

If you are having a hard time making ends meet, BRCR can help. For help, contact Michaela Stone, a licensed social worker (LSW) employed by the Boothbay Region Community Resources Council. Stone can assist residents of the region access resources to meet their needs such as help paying essential bills, handling state applications for food stamps, disability and more. She can also make referrals for job searches, housing needs, physical and mental illness as well as domestic violence. Each client is dealt with in a confidential manner and at no charge. Boothbay Region Community Resources benefits greatly from the generosity of our volunteers. There are a number of opportunities for you to join us in our efforts to serve people in need on the Boothbay Peninsula through lending a hand or making a contribution.
- Community fuel assistance. This is funded through the fuel account and provides heating fuel once per “heating season.” For more information, call Tracy Hyson at 207-633-3531.
- Community woodpile. This is available to persons in need who heat with wood and is furnished by your neighbors who fondly refer to themselves as “The Woodchucks.” For more information, call Sue at 207-633-6320.
- Community clothing closet. This is housed at the United Methodist Church of Boothbay Harbor and provides free clothing during the cold months on Wednesdays and Saturdays. For more information, call Helen at 207-633-5666.
- Set-for-Success Back to School Program. This is a community wide effort, providing local children with the tools of education that include notebooks, pens and pencils, calculators, backpacks, etc. For more information, call Sue at 207-633-7049.
- Boothbay Region Food Pantry. This is located on the lower level of the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor and distributes food to families in need on Fridays. For more information, call Fleet at 207-350-4077.
- Warming Lunches. These are held Monday through Thursday at various sites in the region. If you are lonely or hungry you are welcome to come in for a hot meal. For more information, call Elaine at 207-633-6354.

In a challenging economic climate and without state or federal funding, we invite you to help the BRCR continue our important work. Your gift will help support the excellent work of the BRCR, doing what we believe provides a necessary and vital service on the Boothbay region peninsula. After nine years, in the fall of 2013, BRCR will be seeking its own 501 (c) (3) nonprofit status. At this time, the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor is the financial and nonprofit umbrella through which donations are tax deductible.
