Thom Carroll
Thom Carroll, age 67, passed away surrounded by his loved ones Monday, May 12, 2025, in his home in Hancock, Maine. He was born July 23, 1957, in Bar Harbor, the son of John Carroll and Diane Carroll. Thom graduated Boothbay Region High School, Class of 1975 and immediately joined the U.S. Coast Guard, where he spent the next 21 years.
Thom was a family man who enjoyed the simple life of hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was the proud owner of Yu Takeout with his wife, Sonye Carroll, who he continuously encouraged to follow her dreams of owning the restaurant. He loved the company that came with owning Yu Takeout, being able to be an active part of the community.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 21 years Sonye Carroll, his stepdaughter Tina Lewis; his grandchildren, Taylor Thurston and significant other Korey Kinney; Logan Goodwin and fiancée Hailey Saunders; Saige Emery and husband Jason Emery; Ekko and Trewett Neitz; his great-grandchildren Olivia Kinney and Maeve Goodwin. His mother Diane Carroll; his brother Tim Carroll and wife Heidi Carroll; brother Danny Carroll and significant other Laura Liberty; sister Betsy Pratt and her husband David Pratt; sister Catherine “Feffie” Hodgdon and husband Dana Hodgdon, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Thom was predeceased by his father, who was his best friend, John Carroll and his stepdaughter Natalie Lewis.
Thom was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He touched so many lives in his 67 years on this earth and his absence will leave a hole that cannot be filed.
A celebration of life will be held in the fall.
