Teams forming for third annual adult spelling bee
Registration is now open for teams to compete in this year’s third annual adult spelling bee, set for Friday, March 14, at Boothbay Region High School. The event is a fundraiser for the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library (BHML) and a chance for stellar spellers to show off their abilities. Three-member teams will compete to be declared the best spellers in the Boothbay region. They’ll also be able to claim the rotating bee trophy, first prize medals and a $100 gift certificate to McSeagull’s to celebrate their victory.
Teams can come from local businesses or nonprofits, or can be made up of any trio of adults (15 years of age or older) eager to spell. Applications are available at the library’s circulation desk. The registration fee is $150 per team and all proceeds go to support the library. Teams are encouraged to come up with a team name and costumes to match. There will be a prize for the team with the best look.
If you want to spell, but don’t have a team yet, leave your name at the Library circulation desk. If you have two teammates already, pick up your application form from the library so you’ll be able to officially enter.
Tickets for the event will be available soon from library board members or at the library. Attendees can compete for prizes by entering audience participation contests between bee rounds. Plan to come and spell, or just come and support the library.
