Souper Bowl of Caring this Sunday
It’s a big game weekend! Already folks are stocking up on game-day appetizers, beverages and more for the Super Bowl football game. Advertisers are spending millions and millions of dollars on TV ads to temp your palate or get you into their stores — and then there are our Boothbay neighbors, who are longing for a can of tuna fish or jar of peanut butter or pound of ground coffee, a can of soup, etc.
Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday is all about tackling hunger. Over 11,000 teams of folks across our nation are organizing opportunities in their churches, schools and civic organizations, in an effort to collect food and money donations for a local charity that helps feed their hungry neighbors.
In our Boothbay community, nine community churches will have their own Big Game underway during worship and their touchdown score is to cross the threshold of the Boothbay Region Food Pantry with bags and boxes of non-perishable food and money to fill the shelves that are being severely tapped through the winter months.
Want to be a part of the game? Members, friends and those not even connected to a local church are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and money donations to a participating church on February 2 Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday.
For folks who prefer to write checks, please make payable to Boothbay Region Food Pantry. Memo: Souper Bowl of Caring. For every dollar gifted, the food pantry can purchase $8 worth of food through their buying opportunities at Good Shepherd Food Bank.
While you’re shopping for your own personal party supplies or weekly food needs, please consider adding an extra jar of peanut butter or fruit juices, soups, cereals, coffee, tuna fish or another item, and bring to church on Sunday.
Volunteers will be on hand in the pantry at noon, February 2 to receive the delivery of your generous gifts from each of the churches.
